FIG Condemns Intimidation

FALKLAND ISLANDS GOVERNMENT PRESS STATEMENT

26th November 2012

The Falkland Islands Government utterly condemns the violent act of intimidation carried out by the Quebracho Militant Group against the offices of the Argentine Shipping Service last week.  It appears this attack was carried out in protest over the company’s involvement in servicing cruise ships that visit both the Falklands and Argentina.  Sadly, this act has apparently resulted in at least one cruise ship operator cancelling their operations in the Falkland Islands.

This is yet another example of a country of over forty million people attempting to bully and threaten our three thousand people and strangle the economy of our home.  We regret this, and strongly encourage the tourism industry to stand firm, and not to allow themselves to be scared into assisting attempts to damage our economy in what is tantamount to an economic blockade.  There are countless families in the Islands whose livelihoods depend on the cruise vessel industry, and for over a decade we have enjoyed welcoming visitors from all over the world to see our wonderful wildlife and heritage.

The Falkland Islands is a spectacular tourism destination, and is a fantastic place to do business.  We enjoy a warm relationship with the tourism industry, and look forward to continuing to work with vessel operators long into the future.

Honourable Dick Sawle MLA
On behalf of the Legislative Assembly of the Falkland Islands

Dick Sawle is a British born man who decided to jump on his country’s colonial bandwagon… go figure …

Dick Sawle is a Falkland Islander first, British second. As I am English first and British second. In fact, British is always someone’s second allegiance. Figured ?

He can say whatever he wants, but he is promoting British colonialism and usurping Argentinian territory.

It is impossible to ‘usurp’ what you already own.

You own it, as much as you own Rhodesia, Hong Kong and Belize. The end of the colonial party is nigh, but some people are still too drunk to realise.

We own it – that is correct. Whether we always own it is down to the people of the Falkland Islands. Including Dick Sawle. Remember, the party is never over until the fat lady sings 🙂

We are telling all gate crashers to down their beers and get out, and don’t bother us with your hefty hangovers.

There are no gatecrashers at this party – only the mob outside who wish to force entry. They will fail.
