Fernandez: twit or twitter ?

17 Jun

The Falkland Islands Question, as viewed from Argentina has received another promotion. Originally viewed as solely a ‘bi-lateral’ issue between Britain and Argentina, it recently got an upgrade to a question affecting all of South America. Today however, on her Twitter account, the President of Argentina has raised its status once again and declared the Falklands Question to be a “global issue”.

” The United Kingdom does not respect the UN resolution (on decolonization) which goes beyond a bilateral issue with Argentina, but affects also the global order”, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner wrote in her account on the social network Twitter, “the Falklands are not a bilateral issue, it is a global issue.”

Cristina Fernandez then went on to say, in defiance of Argentina’s Constitution, that all she wanted to do, “was talk,” although she did not mention that the Falkland Islanders had offered to talk or that she didn’t want to talk to them. In the same twitter, Argentina’s President accused Britain of “usurping” the 10 non-self governing territories that it administers. This may come as some surprise to the people of Pitcairn Island, Ascension and, indeed, St. Helena.

The Falkland Islands have been claimed by Britain since 1765. Argentina did not exist until 1816 but then Argentina doesn’t let any facts get in the way of its twit. Or was that tweet ?

    Either she, or her audience aren’t very educated and are very weak minded. The question is which is it?

    The phrase,

    “You can fool some of the people all of the time, or all of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time!”

    comes to mind.

    El Presidente has obviously taken this to heart and is trying to con the rest of the world into believing that their claim is solid (which it is not), by suggesting that the nasty first-world colonialists have stolen her land.

    “Fooled some of the people for all of the time….”

    But this won’t last if the Falkland Islanders and British delegation keeps pointing out that Argentina is lying to the UN. The lies are obvious…. they need to be pointed out.

    “Not all of the people, all of the time….”

    Argentina’s economy is in meltdown stage. Kirchner won’t be able to use the Falklands as a distraction if this accelerates, as it might if the Euro also goes into meltdown. Other nations will be more concerned with their own economies to support Argentina, but CFK will keep trotting out the dispute for more and more attention.

    The straw which will break the camel’s back will be when oil extraction commences. Argentina only has a narrow window of opportunity to complete another invasion, but they won’t be able to if:

    a) the British Government improves the defences on the islands right now;

    b) lobbies all nations supporting CFK with the truth about Argentina’s lies, together with the results of the Falklands referendum; and;

    c) changes some of the decisions made under SDSR to obtain Cats&Traps carriers and to buy back the Harriers they sold to the US.

    I did wonder if “Twit” was a typo…
