Rockhopper Strikes Again !

9 Nov

Falkland Islands oil explorer Rockhopper Exploration has made a second oil discovery in the North Falkland Basin with confirmation that its latest well encountered oil and gas on the Casper prospect.

Rockhopper had been using the latest well to appraise the Sea Lion geology – known as the Sea Lion Main Complex – but also to explore two new prospects, Casper and Kermit. The well was drilled 5.9 km to the south-west of the Sea Lion discovery well towards the southern edge of its licence area.

It was successful both in Casper and Sea Lion proving a high quality reservoir package and oil column. Good quality sands with oil shows were also penetrated in Kermit, although these proved to be water-wet.

This will be further good news for the Falkland Islanders who are currently suffering an unofficial blockade by Argentina which objects to the Islanders’ exploitation of their own resources. The search for oil has caused a deterioration in relations over the past five years.
